Success and life coaches tell us to read personal development books. People who say we should read often cite how successful and influential people has made reading a habit. If reading is what it takes to be successful, then why are there more people who do not read? Does reading personal development books help or is it a waste of time?
I had intended to write all the reasons I could think of on why it is important to read personal development books. It came down to one underlying reason, one that is simple and yet so profound. I cannot count the number of times when I would tell myself while reading, “I wish I knew about this decades ago.”
How important is continuous education? I realize that for me to do what I do better, then I need to learn. What stops people from doing something new that is better is fear. People fear because of the lack of knowledge. Reading personal development books is how you and I can learn more. To put it another way, how much we know is dependent on how much we grow ourselves by learning.
Supporting the Importance of Reading Personal Development Books
When you think about it, there is a learning curve in everything we do. It doesn’t matter what those things are. Career, business, sports and other activities, we learn the ins and outs of what we do. How much we are willing to learn and how we learn are what differentiates us from others.
For many people, learning enough gets them by. On the other hand, there are those who learns beyond enough and that gives them more opportunities. Growing yourself is an investment. Formal education has prepared you well for a career working for other people. As you perform your duties and responsibilities in a company, what can you do to be in line for the next promotion? As an entrepreneur, what can you do to expand your business? Furthermore, what other opportunities are out there?
There are many ways to learn such as:
- Enrolling in classes
- Attending seminars and workshops
- Consulting experts
- Finding a mentor
Accompanying each of the four mentioned ways to learn is reading personal development books. In the coming weeks, I will write more about the importance and feature books you can read in a new category. Books on personal development is now a part of the Amazing Life Daily blog.
