A couple of weeks ago, I attended a special event organized by XTRM 1-11 called Recharge 2016, held at Caliraya Resort Club. That was the first time I saw and listened to one of the featured speakers, Pastor Dennis Sy. He talked about the difference between getting rich and being rich.
XTRM 1-11 Recharge 2016
With over 20,000 members, getting 600 people to fill up the slots for the Recharge 2016 was a non-issue. This is an event organized by XTRM 1-11 yearly. And this year, the theme was emotional, social, spiritual and physical fitness.
We had a blockbuster lineup of featured speakers that includes Bro. Obet ‘Daddy O’ Cabrillas, Bro. Velden Lim, Anthony Pangilinan, Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan. And then there is Pastor Dennis Sy of Victory Greenhills.
Dennis Sy on Getting Rich or Being Rich
“There is a big difference between getting rich and being rich.” – Pastor Dennis Sy
A lot of us, including me, focused on getting rich. So, it means that we are always finding ways to increase our income.
Some of us are going to make it big, earning loads money and then what happens?
There is that empty feeling.
For most of us, we would end up using our productive years and retire still trying to get rich.
We may feel poor, but are we living in poverty?
Did you know that more than 3 billion people live on less than $2.50 or 118 pesos per day?
I found out when I saw Global Issues Poverty Facts & Stats.
If you are earning at least 119 pesos a day, then you are in a better situation than over 3 billion people in the world.
“The world has a limited perspective on wealth. When we say rich, we are not just talking about money, but relationships, health, land, kids, and even eternal rewards.” – Pastor Dennis Sy
Without a doubt, wealth is a matter of perspective.
Rich for Life
Pastor Dennis Sy was gracious to speak to us and shared his experience and wisdom. His lessons had made us realize how much we have misplaced our priorities.
Getting rich and being rich is not the same, but can we have both?
Here is how I see it.
Wealth is important as it provides our family security. But it is in striking a good balance between getting rich and other aspects of life, which makes us rich.
Pastor Dennis Sy has written a book titled ‘Rich for Life and How You Can Be One.’ It should be available in bookstores, or you can visit his website called Act Like a Man and order online.
